When installing Motorhome Solar Panels please don’t cut costs with the sealant, whatever you do make sure you seal it up properly, forget Silicone, where talking Sikaflex… This stuff bonds, seals and stays pliable, use the cheap stuff it will leak! If possible allow the sealant to cure properly for 24 hours, before you drive it as well.

Pay attention to your access point into the van, where possible we always run the cables through the roof into the cable trunking point, there’s nothing worse than seeing cables running into the van on display, keep it neat and tidy for a better job.

We fitted the solar controller by the access door so the customer can always take a glance at it on entry and exit, again the cables where all hidden, it always looks neater if you plan it right and spend a little time doing it properly.

The final stage of the Motorhome Solar Panel Install is connecting it to the Leisure Battery, make sure you fuse the line for protection and where possible solder all joints for the best connections. Once completed test the output of the panels, with a good Amp Meter, to compare the readings of the solar panel controller, most controllers are not that accurate, they are there as guidance, we want to know the actual readings, the controller we used on this job was infact nearly 0.5 amps of the true reading!

The two Motorhome Solar Panels we used here from Black Diamond, produced 4.5 amps in cool spring sunshine of 17 degrees, so in full summer sunshine we could well see 11Amps per hour, plenty to keep all those gadgets working well, just remember to keep the panels performing at there best, always make sure you keep them clean, as dirt will impair there performance!
